Center for Caring
What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
Established in 2007 as an independent nonprofit organization, the St. Paul Center for Caring is a growing community service center in the Five Corners neighborhood of Jersey City. The Center for Caring manages relationships with nonprofit organizations that use our facilities, working with organizations that serve the poor, the abused, and the neglected.
This year, the primary focus of the Center for Caring is a major renovation project that will enable us to house more social service organizations. In 2007, the Center for Caring was awarded a Community Development Block Grant from the City of Jersey City to enable the renovation.
We are reclaiming the church basement from damp and neglect to house the church offices and provide office space for Habitat for Humanity of Hudson County. There will also be a meeting room that can accommodate AA/NA groups and other meetings of 50 people or less.
Meanwhile, a portion of the parish hall including the current church office is being remodeled to make room for Hudson County CASA. Beverly Savage, executive director of Hudson County CASA, was instrumental in the grant application, and we look forward to welcoming her and her staff and volunteers in 2009.
