Prayer walk and potluck for Pentecost, May 27

May 21, 2012

Pentecost stained glass windowThe feast of Pentecost, which this year falls on Sunday, May 27, celebrates the birthday of the church, when God sent the Holy Spirit on Jesus’ disciples, who then converted more than 3,000 people to the new faith in the crucified and risen Lord (Acts 2). St. Paul’s Lutheran Church celebrates with a festive Eucharist at 10:00 am. Before the regular worship service, we’ll make a prayer walk through the neighborhood, beginning at Journal Square at 9:15 am. After worship, we’ll share a potluck lunch. Please join us for all or part of this celebration. Wear red to symbolize the Holy Spirit!

Jimmy King supports Sharing Place

May 14, 2012

Jimmy King food driveOn hearing that the Sharing Place is struggling to feed the 500 or so families who come to us for food every month, Jimmy King (center in photo at left) organized a food drive among his friends and supporters. Of the drive, held on Saturday, May 12, Sharing Place Executive Director Maureen Cassidy said, “There was an amazing turnout, and most people showed up with bags of groceries in response to Jimmy King’s letter.” We are deeply grateful to Jimmy and to all the people who donated food to help our hungry neighbors. If you would like to donate to support the Sharing Place, please contact Maureen Cassidy via email or by calling 201.963.5518.
